Please note that many of the events listed (firework shows, parades, concerts, celebrations) are scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 4. However, select 4th of July Celebration events may take place prior to July 4, continue following July 4, and extend through July 7. Information regarding road closures are tentative and subject to change without notice. Road Closures:
From 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2 until 4 a.m. on Friday, July 5, closures and restrictions will be in place in the following areas:
- First Street between Constitution Avenue Northwest and Independence Avenue Southwest
- Maryland Avenue Southwest between First Street Southwest and Third Street Southwest
- Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest between First Street Northwest and Third Street Northwest.
The area between Peace Circle and Garfield Circle will also remain restricted until 4 a.m. on July 5, 2019.
From 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., In Takoma Park, Maryland, the Independence Day Celebration Parade will temporarily close roads around the Parade route including Carroll and Ethan Allen Avenues, Maple Avenue, and Ritchie Avenue.
In Washington D.C. during and immaturely following the Fireworks on July 4 (from 9:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M.), areas along Independence Avenue between the Lincoln Memorial and World War II Memorial will be closed for safety checks related to the fireworks launch site. Roads and sidewalks directly surrounding the area will re-open after cleanup crews complete inspections and remove any hazardous materials.
With Independence Day taking place on Thursday this year, expect many to take long weekends beginning on Wednesday July 3 and through Sunday July 7, resulting in an increase of traffic congestion. Heat and humidity should also be expected and it is recommended to stay hydrated and bring water to events.
