White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Monday pushed back on calls for President Trump to address the nation amid the riots and protests that broke out across the country in response to Minneapolis man George Floyd’s death in police custody last week, maintaining that the president is committed to “action.”
McEnany, during an interview with “Fox & Friends,” said the president has “taken extraordinary action” — noting the activation of the National Guard in more than a dozen states and the Trump administration’s move to designate Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization (despite disputed authority to do so). Susan Rice writes in her memoir that the Michael Flynn she was dealing with had nothing in common with the firebrand she had watched leading a “lock her up” chant against Hillary Clinton at the Republican National Convention a few months earlier. Flynn, a retired general and the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, was respectful and subdued, eager for her advice. District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that she is putting the nation’s capital under an earlier curfew Monday night, moving the start time to 7 p.m. ET from 11 p.m. ET as it had been on Sunday.
“Tonight, I’m ordering another curfew in Washington, D.C. We want your voices to be heard, but we also want to protect the safety of everyone in our city,” Bowser said at a morning press conference. The curfew will last until Tuesday morning but a specific time that it will be lifted was not provided. [Read More]
