WASHINGTON– (WMAL) An FBI agent is accused of abusing heroin from his own investigations, thus botching dozens of cases.

He has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Matthew Lowry, 33, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland is a former special agent with the FBI’s Washington field office.

He was sentenced in federal court.

He pleaded guilty in April to 20 counts of obstruction of justice, 18 counts of falsification of records, 13 counts of conversion of property, and 13 counts of possession of heroin.

The accusations against him led prosecutors to dismiss charges against at least 28 defendants, according to court documents.
