5am – A/B/C New law requires NY schools to observe 9/11 anniversary. (NY Post) — New York schools are required to provide a moment of silence to observe the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, according to a new state law approved by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Monday. The law calls for a brief moment of silence at the beginning of the school day every 9/11 to encourage dialogue and education in the classroom among a new generation of students who weren’t alive during the 2001 terror attacks that leveled the World Trade Center’s twin towers and killed more than 3,000 people — the worst foreign attack on American soil. The law goes into effect immediately. “9/11 was one of the single darkest periods in this state’s and this nation’s history, and we owe it to those we lost and to the countless heroes who ran toward danger that day and the days that followed to do everything we can to keep their memory alive,” Cuomo said. “By establishing this annual day of remembrance and a brief moment of silence in public schools, we will help ensure we never forget — not just the pain of that moment but of the courage, sacrifice and outpouring of love that defined our response.” The law was sponsored in the legislature by state Sen. Joseph Addabbo and Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato — both Queens Democrats.

6am – E         Montgomery Council Considers Enhanced Security. (MyMCMedia) – Montgomery County Councilmembers are considering a step up in security because of messages they’ve received since several men, who are in the country illegally, have been charged with sex crimes. “I think all of us have received alarming messages over the last couple of weeks that are based on ignorance and unfortunately in some cases outright racial profiling,” Councilmember Gabe Albornoz said Tuesday. “It’s been disconcerting to hear some of those messages, often from people who don’t live in Montgomery County.” Council President Nancy Navarro said the council has filed police reports because of some of the messages. Capt. Thomas Jordan, spokesman for Montgomery County police, also said some of the messages are not originating within the county. “When councilmembers get messages that are threatening in nature – not someone exercising their First Amendment rights – they pass them on to us,” Jordan said. Security concerns were part of a closed session on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Navarro said councilmembers are still discussing how to increase security. A police officer stood in the back of the Tuesday morning council session.

7am – D         NYT Says ‘Airplanes Took Aim at World Trade Center’ on 9/11.  (Breitbart) – The far-left New York Times reports it was “airplanes” that took aim at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 — not Islamic terrorists.  No kidding, this is what the New York Times published on Wednesday, the 18th anniversary of that terrible day: “Eighteen years have passed since airplanes took aim at the World Trade Center and brought them down.” A tweet published by the Times on Wednesday announced the same bombshell: “18 years have passed since airplanes took aim and brought down the World Trade Center.” Without bothering to retract the extraordinary news nearly 3000 Americans were the victims of airplanes that had suddenly became sentient, the Times deleted the tweet and rewrote the article. Naturally, the article still withholds holds the crucial information about exactly who the terrorists were: “Eighteen years have passed since terrorists commandeered airplanes to take aim at the World Trade Center and bring them down,” it now reads.

7am – E         Alyssa Milano praises meeting with Ted Cruz, says she’s ‘cautiously optimistic’ for gun reform. (Fox News) – Actress/activist Alyssa Milano said she was “cautiously optimistic” after her sitdown with Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., on Tuesday to discuss gun violence. Milano met Cruz in his D.C. office along with Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter was killed in the 2018 Parkland shooting, and gun control activist Ben Jackson and live-streamed the conversation on Facebook, which lasted over an hour. Appearing on CNN, the “Charmed” star admitted that she didn’t think the meeting would happen after she and Cruz traded barbs on social media last week. “I felt like this meeting was important, obviously, to reach across the aisle, to have a civil discussion on this matter, to look at him in the eye and say you’re on the wrong side of this,” Milano explained. Milano told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that she believed that Cruz “understands the magnitude” of the current gun debate amid the mass shootings and noted how they clashed on the subject of background checks. “I’m cautiously optimistic that he knows the issue and hopeful, I guess, that he’s willing to do something about it?” Milano elaborated. “And the most important thing, I think, on this issue is that this is not even a bipartisan issue, it’s a non-partisan issue.” Milano later added that the Republican lawmaker didn’t make any promises but agreed that there is a “serious problem,” which she considered to be a “good first step.”

8am – A         INTERVIEW – JAMES “JIM” CARAFANO – vice president of foreign and defense policy studies at The Heritage Foundation. Carafano is a leading expert in national security and foreign policy challenges.

8am – B/C     CALIFORNIA’S HOMELESSNESS PROBLEM:

  • Trump pushing for major crackdown on homeless camps in California, with aides discussing moving residents to government-backed facilities. (Washington Post) – President Trump has ordered White House officials to launch a sweeping effort to address homelessness in California, citing the state’s growing crisis, according to four government officials aware of the effort. The planning has intensified in recent weeks. Administration officials have discussed using the federal government to get homeless people off the streets of Los Angeles and other cities and into new government-backed facilities, according to two officials briefed on the planning. But it is unclear how they could accomplish this and what legal authority they would use. It is also unclear whether the state’s Democratic politicians would cooperate with Trump, who has sought to embarrass them over the homelessness crisis with repeated attacks on their competency. Trump’s directive is part of his broader effort in recent months to shine a light on problems in California and a number of major U.S. cities, including Baltimore and Chicago. He has complained about what he says are years of failed Democratic leadership that have led to sustained poverty and crime.
  • Leprosy Could Be The Next Public Health Crisis To Hit Los Angeles. NYU Doctor Warns Los Angeles: You May Be Hit With This Medieval Disease. (Daily Wire) – According to an internist at the New York University School of Medicine, the burgeoning number of homeless people in the cities of America, particularly Los Angeles, could see a surge in a disease thought uncommon since the Middle Ages: leprosy. Dr. Marc Siegel, of New York University’s Langone Health, writing in The Hill, notes that the CDC reports that between 100 and 200 new cases of leprosy are annually reported in the U.S. He adds that a USC study found that of the 187 leprosy patients treated at its clinic between 1973 to 2018, most came from Mexico, where leprosy is more common.  Siegel points out, “Leprosy is still more prevalent in Central America and South America, with more than 20,000 new cases per year. Given that, there is certainly the possibility of sporadic cases of leprosy continuing to be brought across our southern border undetected.” Then Siegel addresses Los Angeles: “And it seems only a matter of time before leprosy could take hold among the homeless population in an area such as Los Angeles County, with close to 60,000 homeless people and 75 percent of those lacking even temporary shelter or adequate hygiene and medical treatment. All of those factors make a perfect cauldron for a contagious disease that is transmitted by nasal droplets and respiratory secretions with close repeated contact.”

8am – D         INTERVIEW – ROGER SIMON – Hollywood screenwriter, author of the new novel THE GOAT,  was the Co-Founder of PJMedia and a founding father of conservative new media – joined WMAL to talk about the progressive “blacklisting” rhetoric in Hollywood, reflected on the anniversary of 9/11 and how it impacted his political worldview, and talked about his new fiction novel “The Goat.”

  • ABOUT ROGER SIMON: Roger Simon is one of the most influential conservative writers and thinkers in the new media business. How does someone go from a radical left-winger in Hollywood to the co-founder of one of the most influential conservative websites? Once the darling of Hollywood, with a 1990 Oscar nomination for writing the screenplay for the movie “Enemies, A Love Story,” Simon went from a typical liberal to an active conservative. Simon’s newest novel, “The Goat,” is a hilarious Faustian journey through modern Hollywood. Few people have had the impact Simon has.
  • Simon: Time for Conservatives to Build Their Own Hollywood: “It’s time for conservatives and what Kurt Schlicter calls the “Normals” to have an entertainment industry of their own. Hollywood has effectively divorced conservatives (and the Normals). And after a divorce, as they say, “living well is the best revenge.” The question is how. It’s not easy and one of the big reasons is the conservative world itself. Conservative financiers abjure the arts — indeed they seem even to fear them — unless it’s putting money in their local philharmonic to have their name on a plaque in the lobby. Problem is, we all love Beethoven but he doesn’t need our help at this point. Conservative fat cats also put a ton of money in think tanks that aren’t particularly effective. I don’t mean to unnecessarily diss those tanks. Some of my best friends are, etc., etc…. but the truth is, one good movie or television series is worth more than a hundred, or even a thousand, position papers when it comes to moving society. Andrew Breitbart couldn’t have been more right when he said: “Politics is downstream of culture.” (He could have added education, which is in a sense part of the culture, now more than ever working hand-in-hand with entertainment for bad ends.)” https://pjmedia.com/rogerlsimon/time-for-conservatives-to-build-their-own-hollywood/

8am – E         REMEMBERING 9/11 at 8:46 AM: Eighteen years have passed since Islamic terrorists commandeered airplanes to take aim at the World Trade Center and bring them down. It was at 8:46 a.m., the time when the first plane slammed into the north tower of the World Trade Center.  That moment forever changing the course of America’s future in foreign affairs and the war on terror. We will take a moment of silence to remember.
