Open discussion on 287(g) program brings people from both sides (The Frederick News Post)

A discussion was held yesterday at the Frederick Friends Meeting house about the 287(g) program adopted by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

The program, first implemented in Frederick in 2008, provides training for sheriff’s deputies by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It allows deputies to inquire about the immigration status of anyone booked into the county’s adult detention center and begin deportation proceedings if appropriate. Fairfax County discusses prohibiting ‘curb to curb’ panhandling (WUSA 9)

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved a motion to draft an ordinance that prohibits panhandling, or “curb to curb engagement with cars while in medians or intersections.”

In Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Pat Herrity, a representative of the Springfield district, in conjunction with John Cook, a representative of the Braddock district, proposed staff draft the ordinance, stating panhandling in those areas is a public safety and community issue. [Read More]

As President Trump heads to the French seaside resort of Biarritz for the annual gathering of the Group of Seven nations, he’s managed to put Russia at the center of meetings that are designed to be focused on trade, climate change, and other economic issues.

Trump floated the idea of readmitting Russia to the group of the world’s seven largest economies this week in his rambling back and forth with reporters on the White House South Lawn, insisting the only reason Russia was booted from the group is that Russian President Vladimir Putin “outsmarted” President Barack Obama in annexing Crimea.
