Trump caves on the shutdown, threatens to go around Congress to get his wall (Washington Examiner)

President Trump on Friday agreed to temporarily end the government shutdown without any guarantee of more money for his border wall after the five-week funding lapse had started to significantly hobble government operations.

“We have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,” Trump said at the White House.

Trump said he could agree to reopen the shuttered parts of government through Feb. 15, a move that will let hundreds of thousands of federal workers finally get paid. [Read More]

FBI’s show of force in Roger Stone arrest spurs criticism of Mueller tactics (FOX News)

The FBI’s pre-dawn arrest of President Trump’s ex-adviser Roger Stone at his Florida home prompted critics to once again question the tactics of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, after more than a dozen special agents clad in tactical gear raided Stone’s property Friday.

Stone, 66, was taken into custody early Friday after being indicted by a federal grand jury a day earlier as part of Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign associates during the 2016 presidential election. CNN, which conveniently happened to be staking out Stone’s Fort Lauderdale home, posted video of the arrest that showed a team of FBI agents with guns banging on Stone’s door and demanding that he come outside. STONE INDICTMENT UNDERCUTS TRUMP-RUSSIA COLLUSION NARRATIVE (The Daily Caller)

The special counsel’s indictment of Roger Stone contains no allegation of a conspiracy to collude with Russia or to steal emails from Democrats, and appears to undercut some of the logic behind Democrats’ collusion narrative.
