5am – A/B/C 1 IN 5 MILLENNIALS EXPECTS TO DIE IN DEBT (CNBC) – Just over 60 percent of millennials (classified here as those aged 18-37) with debt don’t know when, or if, they’ll ever be able to pay off what they owe, according to a new CreditCards.com report. That includes roughly 42 percent of millennials who don’t know when they’ll be able to wipe out their debt, and almost 20 percent of those who expect to die in debt.

5am – D         Trump Challenges Reporter: Would You Sign Dems’ Bills to End Shutdown If You Were President? President Donald Trump challenged ABC reporter Jonathan Karl about what he would do if he were president after Karl asked him why he won’t sign the bills that Democrats are proposing. Karl asked why Trump won’t sign these other bills, which led Trump to challenge Karl and ask him if he would sign them if he were president. “So why not sign the other bills so some of these workers can get paid?” Karl asked.

“Do you think I should do that?” Trump responded.

Karl said it was not his place to decide. Trump insisted he answer the question.

“I watch your one-sided reporting. Seriously, Jon, do you think I should just sign?” Trump asked.

“I’m saying that if you sign that these workers can start getting paid,” Karl said.

“I’m asking you, would you do that if you were in my position? If you would do that you should never be in this position because you’d never get anything done,” Trump said.

5am – E         FRONTIER AIRLINES ENCOURAGES TIPPING THE ATTENDANTS  (Chicago Tribune) — Frontier Airlines, a pioneer in the tip-your-attendant department, used to split their tips on each flight. As of Jan. 1, however, Frontier’s 2,200 flight attendants no longer pool their gratuities. Now it’s every man and woman for themselves, and perhaps one beneficiary will be the harried airline passenger.

• As Trump heads to border, Dems double down on ‘manufactured crisis’ claim
• Pelosi: Trump doesn’t understand the financial insecurity facing federal workers during the shutdown: “The president seems to be insensitive to that. He thinks maybe they could just ask their father for more money. But they can’t.”
• Schumer says President Trump “slammed the table,” walked out of a meeting and called it “a waste of time” after Nancy Pelosi said she wouldn’t agree to his border wall
• President Trump tweets meeting with Speaker Pelosi, Minority Leader Schumer was “a total waste of time.” Schumer says, “We saw a temper tantrum because he couldn’t get his way, and he just walked out of the meeting.”
• KEVIN MCCARTHY: “I just listened to Senator Schumer. I know he complained the time that you had cameras in the meeting. I think we need to bring them back. Because what he described the meeting to be is totally different than what took place.”
• Kevin McCarthy gave his account of events leading to the abrupt ending of Trump’s meeting: “[Trump] turned to the speaker and politely asked her, ‘OK Nancy, if we open the government up, in 30 days could we have border security?’ She raised her hand and said ‘No, not at all’”

• OSCARS WILL GO ON HOSTLESS (Variety) — Producers will select a crop of A-listers to introduce various segments instead of relying on one marquee name to kick things off in a monologue filled with Trump zingers, said the insiders. The producers and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Oscars, are scrambling to line up top talent needed to carry the telecast, which is just six weeks from airing live — on Feb. 24 — from Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. Hand-wringing at the Academy has been palpable.
• KEVIN HART SAYS HE’S DONE APOLOGIZING: “I’m done with it,” Hart told host Michael Strahan. “It gets no more energy from me. … There’s no more conversation about it. I’m literally over that. I’m over the moment. And I’m about today. I have explained how I’ve evolved, which makes me say, ‘I’m over it.’ I’m not saying how I’ve changed anymore. … I’m not giving no more explanation of who I am. I’ve done it. … You will not hear me saying anything else about it.”

• Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos are getting divorced after 25 years of marriage.  (CNN)The world’s richest couple is splitting up. Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, are getting a divorce after 25 years of marriage, according to a joint statement put out Wednesday on the Amazon CEO’s Twitter account. “After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” the couple said in the statement. “We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other,” the statement continued. “If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.” Bezos, 54, and MacKenzie, 48, met and got married while working at D.E. Shaw, a New York-based hedge fund, in the early 90s. Shortly after, they packed up and moved across the country to Seattle, where Bezos launched Amazon.
• Jeff Bezos’ Alleged Secret Relationship Revealed Hours After Announcing Divorce. Jeff Bezos reportedly has a new love interest in his life. According to multiple reports, the Amazon CEO has been secretly seeing former Good Day L.A. co-host Lauren Sanchez. The news of their alleged relationship comes just hours after Bezos announced that he and his wife MacKenzie Bezos were getting a divorce after 25 years of marriage. “We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” the Washington Post owner said in a statement. It continued, “We feel incredible lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for everyone one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again. We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursing ventures and adventures.” Page Six reports Bezos and Sanchez became acquainted through her husband, Patrick Whitesell. He’s the co-CEO of the major Hollywood agency WME.

7am – D/E     INTERVIEW – DJ JORDAN – running for the 31st District of the Virginia state House of Delegates – discussed why he’s running and why it’s important for the GOP to maintain control of the House of Delegates in November.

• BIO: D.J. Jordan was communications director for a U.S. senator from Oklahoma, communications director for the U.S. House Committee on Small Business, and press secretary for a U.S. representative from Alabama. He previously worked at both CNN and Fox News, where as an assignment editor and producer he helped develop coverage of breaking and featured news. D.J. earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications from Liberty University, and a master’s degree in public management from The Johns Hopkins University. He has served on the boards of several state and nonprofit agencies focused on family issues, including the Virginia State Board of Social Services and Virginia’s Kids Belong, which advocates for children in the foster care system.
• Virginia’s 31st House of Delegates / District 31 contains portions of Prince William County and Fauquier County. Since 2018, Democrat Elizabeth Guzmán has represented the district. Republican Scott Lingamfelter had the seat from January 9, 2002 to January 10, 2018.
• The Hill: Voters this year will elect all 40 Virginia state senators and all 100 members of the House of Delegates. Both chambers are under Republican control, but by the slimmest of margins. Republicans hold 51 of 100 delegate seats and 21 of 40 seats in the state Senate. The momentum, observers on both sides agree, is firmly on the Democratic side.
• Democrats will spend big to flip closely divided Virginia General Assembly next year. Virginia Democrats have, in recent election cycles, pulled nearly even with Republicans in the legislature and cemented their hold on statewide offices.  The stakes for both parties are particularly high given that Northam and the legislature elected in November will decide the state’s legislative and congressional maps in 2021, following the 2020 census.

• Emily joined us to discuss the decluttering craze that organization expert Marie Kondo has started.
• A new Netflix show “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” came out last week and highlights the obsession with the bestselling book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Japanese cleaning guru Marie Kondo
• Emily has spent the last two years using the “KonMari method” for cleaning. She and her girlfriends share their progress and using the method worked for them. Emily has even gone into her friends’ homes and used the KonMari method in decluttering their homes.
• What’s the KonMari method? The KonMari Method is the tidying method I created out of my lifelong work and passion for organizing. Its most unique characteristic is the question “does it spark joy?” which is the determining factor for deciding what to keep and what to give or throw away.
• Kondo’s process, called the “KonMari Method,” has six rules of tidying:
  • Commit yourself to tidying up. Know that it will take time and be willing to stick to it.
  • Imagine your ideal lifestyle, including the kind of house you want to live in and how you want to live in it. You can write down this description or collect photos.
  • Finish discarding first. Instead of running out to the Container Store and buying storage bins, plan where to store your items once you’ve decided what to keep.
  • Tidy by category, not location. Gathering all like items in the house, such as books or shoes, helps you make better decisions because you know what you have.
  • Follow the right order. Kondo has a category-sorting plan that you must follow, because it helps you gradually hone your ability to identify what sparks joy.
  • Ask yourself if it sparks joy. Hold every one of your possessions in your hands and ask, “Does this spark joy?” If it does, you keep it.

Veteran actor Robert Davi eviscerated Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for reversing his support for a U.S.-Mexico border wall and criticized media networks for ignoring the New York Democrat’s “flip-flopping” on the issue. “My dear Mr. Schumer, what I find that you are doing is absolutely disingenuous,” Davi began in a video shared to his Twitter account.
