WASHINGTON (WMAL) – A funeral director in Dumfries ignored warnings to stop doing business he wasn’t licensed to do, and now his license has been revoked.

Shaun Reid was only licensed to sell funeral arrangements, caskets and urns at Reid Funeral Homes, but he decided to embalm bodies at his office in the historic district too.

Mayor Derrick Wood said they met with Reid many times to let him know what he was legally allowed and not allowed to do in that location. Then in September, Wood issued a written warning telling him to cease and desist, but Reid kept violating the law.

His license was revoked, but Wood said there were rumors in town that he was continuing to do business. Wood issued a statement Friday to reassure the public that the town had taken action.

“We just wanted to set the record today that, hey, he’s not actually licensed to do anything in Dumfries,” Wood said.

Earlier this year Reid was indicted in Prince George’s County on charges of forging death certificates and theft.
