WASHINGTON (WMAL) —  The National Christmas Tree site in Washington reopened at noon Monday following a donation from the National Park Foundation, according to a release from the National Park Service.

The site was closed on Dec. 21 after a man scaled the tree that same evening and caused damage to the tree’s lighting. The incident, along with the current government shutdown, prevented the park from reopening, until the donation.

“The National Park Foundation stepped in to provide the support needed to reopen, operate, and manage the National Christmas Tree site,” the release read.

The site will remain open through Jan. 1.
