ARLINGTON — ( WMAL ) Arlington National Cemetery’s Wreaths Across America event will be taking place this upcoming Saturday.
Amber Caron, director of communications for Wreaths Across America, said they have 11,147 wreaths to go until they meet their 253,000 wreath goal for Arlington National Cemetery, and said they are hopeful they’ll reach the goal, with more wreath sponsorships coming in over the coming days.
Caron said they’re not thinking of what plan B is because they’re thinking they’re going to reach the goal, but if they don’t get to lay a wreath, they will still pay respects at every single grave and say each veteran’s name out loud.
Arlington is a very active cemetery and is growing, she said, so their wreath goal now is much higher than it was in 2014, the first year they were able to lay wreaths at every grave.
Caron said wreaths will be placed in every state, as part of the Wreaths Across America program, and they’re excited about the growth of the program, though it may be why there’s been less support for Arlington, as more people want to donate to their hometowns.
You can sponsor a wreath at Arlington for $15.00. Make a donation at wreathsacrossamerica.org.
