Islamic groups in Pittsburgh appear to have pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars from fundraisers set up in the wake of the horrific October mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue, which killed eleven Jews and injured several congregants and police officers who responded to the scene.
According to the left-wing The Forward, the Islamic group Celebrate Mercy has already funneled $155,000 — of over $238,634 that was raised supposedly for the victims of the shooting and the greater Jewish community of Pittsburgh — into the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh. Though the Forward article states that a document was posted signed by a representative of Celebrate Mercy, the director of the Islamic Center, and a “Tree of Life representative detailing exactly how the funds will be distributed to victims and their families,” the link to the document is dead.
As for the remaining $83,634, raised above the fundraiser’s $150,000 goal, it will go toward the vague goal of “projects that help foster Muslim-Jewish collaboration, dialogue, and solidarity,” Celebrate Mercy director Tarek El-Messidi told The Forward. [Read More]
Paul Manafort Denies Meeting with Assange (National Review)
Embattled former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort says that he has never met privately with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and is threatening to sue the Guardian for reporting that he has.
Citing a “well-placed source,” the Guardian reported Tuesday that Manafort met with Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2013, 2015, and again in the spring of 2016, soon after he became a senior member of the Trump campaign. The report further suggested that the alleged meeting will be of interest to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating whether any members of the Trump campaign helped to coordinate the release of hacked Democratic National Committee emails by WikiLeaks. Women sleep better with dogs in the bed over cats and human partners (WJLA)
Women feel more secure and sleep better if they have a pet dog in the bed, according to a new study.
The study, published in the Journal of the International Society of Anthrozoology, collected data from 962 adult women, 55 percent of which shared the bed with at least one dog, 31 percent with at least one cat, and 57 percent with a human partner. [Read More]
Some D.C. firefighters have been using their own money to buy auto parts and perform minor repairs on their vehicles themselves at their stations to avoid lengthy delays and shoddy workmanship at the fire department’s garage, five department sources have told The Washington Times.The station repairs violate D.C. Border agents routinely used tear gas during Obama administration, DHS data shows (FOX News)
Federal agents used tear gas on the U.S.-Mexico border dozens of times during the Obama administration, data from the Department of Homeland Security shows, despite growing outrage at the Trump administration from Democrats for using the substance against migrant caravan members over the weekend.
According to DHS data obtained by Fox News, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has used 2-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile, commonly known as tear gas, 126 times since 2010.
During the Obama administration, tear gas was used on the border 26 times in 2012, 27 times in 2013, 15 times in 2014, eight times in 2015, and three times in 2016. That compares to 18 times in 2017 and 29 times in 2018 during the Trump administration. [Read More]

Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort held secret talks with Julian Assange inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, and visited around the time he joined Trump’s campaign, the Guardian has been told.Sources have said Manafort went to see Assange in 2013, 2015 and in spring 2016 – during the period when he was made a key figure in Trump’s push for the White House.
