On July 27, CNN reported that Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, would be willing to tell Special Counsel Robert Mueller that the president knew in advance of the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between his campaign and a Kremlin-linked lawyer who was allegedly selling dirt on Hillary Clinton. This revelation not only contradicted Trump’s denials, but also Cohen’s testimony to Congress. It was quite the exclusive—the closest we’ve come to ferreting out “collusion” since the last time CNN botched a big scoop.
The story, bylined by Carl Bernstein, Marshall Cohen, and former Obama administration political appointee Jim Sciutto, cited numerous “sources” with knowledge of the supposed bombshell. Ron DeSantis, the Republican nominee for governor in Florida, faced a backlash on Wednesday for saying in a television interview that his state should not “monkey this up” by electing his Democratic rival Andrew Gillum, who is African-American.
DeSantis made the comment in an interview on Fox News when speaking about Gillum, a progressive who won his party’s nomination in an upset on Tuesday night.
“You know, he is an articulate spokesman for those far-left views and he’s a charismatic candidate,” DeSantis said. “The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state. Data sources make it difficult to know how many school shootings happen each year (Child Trends)

In the aftermath of recent school shootings in Parkland, FL, and Santa Fe, TX, parents, educators, and lawmakers have asked researchers a simple but urgent question: Are school shootings happening more often? The question has proven difficult to answer; while multiple data sources gather this information, there are stark differences in their estimates of how many school shootings happen in any given year. Everytown for Gun Safety identified as many as 29 school shootings during the 2015–2016 school year alone; the Washington Post’s recent analysis identified 10 school shootings in the same year; and the FBI reported two incidents of school shootings with active shooters.
To add to the mix, the U.S. Department of Education’s Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) has emerged as a potential new source of data on school shootings. The CRDC is a biennial, mandatory data collection from each public school and school district in the nation that asks schools whether they have experienced at least one incident that involved a shooting. Aretha Franklin’s closest friends are going to make sure the “Queen of Soul” gets a heartfelt goodbye at her funeral service next week.
Ron Isley, Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams and Jennifer Holliday are among those who plan on attending Franklin’s ceremony, which will also include several performances from the renowned singers.
Gospel stars Marvin Sapp, the Clark Sisters and Vanessa Bell Armstrong will also be part of the program — as well as Audrey DuBois Harris and Alice McAllister Tillman.
The service, which will be held in Detroit on Aug. 31, is expected to reflect Franklin’s gospel roots and honor her dedication to the civil rights movement. As a teenager, Franklin briefly went on a countrywide tour with Martin Luther King Jr. [Read More]
Sarah Palin, Loyal Running Mate, Excluded from John McCain’s Funeral (Breitbart)
Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who was Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election, has been excluded from his funeral.
Breitbart News has independently confirmed an earlier report in People magazine, which reported that Palin was not sent an invitation, and was told through intermediaries to stay away from the ceremony.
McCain fundraiser Carla Eudy confirmed to People that Palin had not been invited — possibly, People speculated, at the behest of the McCain family.
The news comes on the tenth anniversary of the date in 2008 when Palin was announcedas McCain’s pick for Vice President. [Read More]
