THE DAILY BEAST OFFICIALLY STANDS AGAINST TRUMP’S SCOTUS NOMINEE (Daily Caller)

The Daily Beast is running an advertisement against President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

The left-leaning website forayed into activist territory by telling people to subscribe to their membership program if they want a news site that is “on [their] side” against Kavanaugh.

The advertisement warned that America is hanging in the balance with Trump’s SCOTUS pick and that Americans can expect civil rights, LGBT rights, “and more” to be rolled back with the addition of another conservative justice. [Read More]

Is it time to retire Advanced Placement classes? (Baltimore Sun)

The national conversation surrounding Advanced Placement (AP) classes and their role in preparing high school students for the future took an interesting turn recently when eight prominent Washington, D.C., independent schools jointly announced that they will soon terminate their AP programs.

In a letter published in The Washington Post and reported in Inside Higher Ed, the heads of Georgetown Day, Holton-Arms, Landon, Maret, National Cathedral, Potomac, St. Albans and Sidwell Friends Schools cited, among other reasons: [Read More]

I Posed in a Bikini in Times Square. I Was Expecting Comments from Haters, But What I Actually Heard Was Way More Disheartening. (Cosmopolitan)

Standing in the middle of Times Square, it wasn’t super hot, but the pressure of what I was about to do was making me sweat. My fingers slipped against the fabric of my maxi skirt as I fumbled with the tightly-knotted bow. My outfit fell away, revealing my pink bikini beneath it. I heard hollers from strangers, but their words blurred into an indecipherable mess as I tried, unsuccessfully, to remain calm. A sliver of sun peeked out from behind the skyscrapers, reminding me we were about to lose the light. No more time for nerves — it was now or never.

“Let’s do this,” I said out loud. My clothes dropped all the way to the ground, and the voices around me became clear. [Read More]

Ellison: National Borders Create ‘An Injustice’ for ‘Regular People’ Seeking Higher Wages (Washington Free Beacon)

Rep. Keith Ellison (D., Minn.), deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, on Wednesday said that national borders create “an injustice” for “regular people” seeking out the highest wages possible.Ellison, who announced last month that he will not run for reelection to Congress and instead launch a bid for Minnesota attorney general, did an interview with Rabbi Michael Lerner in which they discussed several issues, including immigration and the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“And I might also mention to you, rabbi, and everyone listening, that, look, the so-called, or what we used to call the first world, the developed part of the globe, relies for its prosperity, let’s be honest, on low wages, low levels of civil- and human-rights enforcement, low levels of environmental protection in what we used to call the third world, right?” Ellison said. House GOP passes measure lauding ICE; Democrats withhold votes in protest (The Washington Post)

The House voted overwhelmingly Wednesday for a resolution backing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as Republican leaders sought a political advantage in highlighting liberal attacks on the agency.

A handful of Democrats have embraced calls from activists to abolish the agency, known as ICE, because of its aggressive tactics to apprehend, detain and deport undocumented immigrants, including raids of homes and workplaces across the country. These opponents say the agency’s duties could be better handled by other agencies that could focus enforcement on threats from terrorism and criminal activity. [Read More]
