Metro To Provide Late-Night Service Ahead of All-Star Game, Home Run Derby

WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Metro has announced in a news released that they will be providing special late-night rail service following Monday evening’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby and Tuesday evening’s 89th MLB All-Star Game.

Thanks to Mastercard, in partnership with Major League Baseball, the sponsorship will allow an extra service period for fans leaving either events, the release stated.

The last trains will depart Navy Yard Station at 12:22 a.m. in the direction of Greenbelt and 12:48 a.m. in the direction of Branch Avenue. Fans are advised that only Navy Yard Station will be available for train access during the extra service period, while all other stations will be exit only.

In addition, 200,000 All-Star Week themed SmarTrip cards will be loaded into specially marked vending machines, starting with Navy Yard Station, according to Metro.

“Mastercard and Major League Baseball have partnered to connect baseball fans to their passion for the sport for over 20 years,” said Cheryl Guerin, executive vice president, North America marketing and communications. “Knowing how important Metro is to the region, we were happy to step in with MLB to support extended service and help ensure that everyone attending the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game has a truly Priceless experience.”

Moreover, Metro riders will have the ability to purchase discounted tickets to GEICO All-Star FanFest at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center via WMATA and MLB social media channels.

Metro will also run additional trains on the Green Line to provide extra capacity for fans before the start of the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game.
