Abolishing ICE becomes Dem litmus test

Abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is fast becoming a litmus test for Democrats after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s shock victory in a Democratic primary.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) on Thursday became the first senator to call for the scrapping of ICE, arguing that it has become “a deportation force.”

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) followed suit on Friday, saying, “We should abolish ICE.”

And on Saturday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called for “replacing ICE” while tearing into the administration’s “ugly” immigration practices. [Read More]

Yappy Days (Amazon)

Bernadette Duncan spent twenty-six years as a radio talk show producer.

In “”Yappy Days: Behind the Scenes with Newsers, Schmoozers, Boozers and Losers,”” she vividly recounts her adventures in the trenches of big-time talk radio during its most dynamic decades set against the dramatically changing backdrop of America’s pre- and post-9/11 realities.

This candidly told story includes Bernadette’s firsthand impressions of the sometimes quirky celebrity talk show hosts whom she served as a producer during her career.

In talk radio, a producer does a wide variety of tasks in facilitating a show, including booking the guests, screening the listener phone calls, occasionally engineering the program, and most important, holding the hands, supporting, consoling, encouraging, and simply trying to get along with some of the most egotistical, egocentric, neurotic, insecure, demanding, opinionated, sometimes horrible, but oftentimes wonderful and always remarkably talented human beings to talk across the face of the earth. Brian Ross is leaving ABC after botched Michael Flynn report (Page Six)

ABC News’ Brian Ross — who was suspended last year as chief investigative correspondent for a faulty report on Michael Flynn — is leaving the network, Page Six has exclusively learned.

ABC suspended Ross last December for a month without pay for a botched report on ousted White House national security adviser Flynn that reported President Trump directed Flynn to make contact with Russian officials. The mistake even sent stocks tumbling, and ABC issued an apology saying: “We deeply regret and apologize for the serious error.”

We hear that Ross on Monday announced he’s leaving the network. His longtime executive producer Rhonda Schwartz is also exiting. “The time has come to say good-bye,” said the duo in a letter to staff with an announcement by ABC News president James Goldston. [Read More]

Mexico’s New Leftist President Is Not A Threat, But The Collapse Of Mexico Is (The Federalist)

Andrés Manuel López Obrador won the Mexican presidency in a landslide election on Sunday. Obrador—or Amlo, as he’s commonly called—is a left-wing populist of the sort common to Latin America. A former mayor of Mexico City who twice ran for president and lost, in 2006 and 2012, the 64-year-old Obrador, who spent decades as a radical outsider in Mexican politics, now finds himself in the seat of power in a country that’s falling apart.

During his populist campaign, the silver-haired Obrador railed against the corruption of incumbent President Enrique Peña Nieto and his the conservative Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which Obrador denounced, not without good reason, as a “mafia of power.” Indeed, under Peña Nieto Mexico’s economy has stagnated and crime has spiraled out of control. It’s not a stretch to say the intertwined crises of poverty, corruption, and crime have driven Mexicans in desperation to elect their first leftist president since 1934. [Read More]

Little House on the Racist Prairie [PJ Media]

The Left is going after another great American treasure: Laura Ingalls Wilder and her beloved Little House on the Prairie collection. They cite the same old reasons — racism, racism, and more racism.

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) says they are stripping Wilder’s name from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for children’s literature, an award Wilder was the first to receive. The Laura Ingalls Wilder Award will now be known as the Children’s Literature Legacy Award. The ALSC says the award “may no longer be consistent with the intention of the award named for her.”

More likely, the modern radical ALSC is no longer consistent with the original intention of the ALSC. [Read More]

On Sunday’s AM Joy, MSNBC contributor and Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin declared that Sarah Huckabee Sanders deserves a “life sentence” of being harassed publicly as she asserted that the White House press secretary “has no right to live a life of no fuss, no muss” because of her negative interactions with the press.

The phony conservative columnist also freaked out over the possibility of abortion being banned, and suggested Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins are “phony pro-choice women” if they vote for President Donald Trump’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. [Read More]
