After Tuesday’s stunning primary results is now safe to say that the Democratic Party is the party of Bernie Sanders. In fact, Democrat voters and the Democratic Party’s leadership has gone so far from the vision and ideals of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, the founders of the Democratic Republicans which became today’s Democratic Party, that they really should now change their name to the Democratic Socialist Party.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a former campaign organizer for Sanders’ presidential campaign, shocked the party by pounding well-funded establishment figure Rep. Joe Crowley in New York. But the shock of that race has overshadowed the equally stunning victory of former NAACP President Ben Jealous for the Democrat’s nomination for governor in Maryland.
Jealous, a political novice, was an early supporter of Sanders in 2016 and ran against establishment figure Rushern Baker, the County Executive in Prince George’s County, a DC suburb. Jealous ran using Sanders‘ class warfare, socialist template defied the political class by outpacing all polling that showed Baker, a long-time elected official who had gained endorsements from most of the party’s establishment figures, with a solid lead throughout the primary campaign. 6 months after tax cuts, Republicans tout soaring economy (Fox Business)
It’s been six months since President Trump signed into law the biggest tax overhaul seen since Ronald Reagan was president — and according to members of his administration, the benefits of less regulation and more corporate money are just beginning to trickle through the economy.
“If we look at the economic data, the big thing that we see is that the capital spending explosion that we predicted would happen, which is ultimately going to benefit workers because the jobs are coming home and wages are going up, is already happening,” Kevin Hassett, the chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, said during an interview with FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo. Trump-Putin summit set for July 16 in Finland (Washington Examiner)
President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Helsinki, Finland on July 16 for their first bilateral summit, the White House announced Thursday.
“The two leaders will discuss relations between the United States and Russia and a range of national security issues,” said a statement from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.
News that a meeting would be held came as White House national security adviser John Bolton was in Moscow for meetings regarding relations between the two nations. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters Wednesday that the location selected for the meeting was “a very convenient place for us and the American side.” [Read More]
After the horrific Capital Gazette shooting yesterday, there’s been some discussion about ratcheting down rhetoric railing against the press, including from President Trump.
The President spoke on the shooting today and unequivocally stated, “This attack shocked the conscience of our nation and filled our hearts with grief. Journalists, like all Americans, should be free from the fear of being violently attacked while doing their job.” [Read More]
