Trump on Giuliani: He’ll get his facts straight (The Hill)
President Trump on Friday called his new personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, a “great guy,” but suggested he may have gotten details wrong about a payment to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, which she alleges was made to keep her from speaking about an alleged affair with Trump.
“He started yesterday,” Trump incorrectly said of Giuliani, who was hired on April 19. “He’ll get his facts straight … He’s a great guy.” [Read More]
Online petition pushes to change George Washington University Colonials nickname (Fox 5 DC)
An online appeal is being made to change the nickname of a D.C. university founded nearly 200 years ago.
A Change.org petition was started in April to find an alternative to George Washington University’s nickname, “Colonials.”
“We, as students, faculty, and staff of the George Washington University, believe it is of great exigence that the University changes the official nickname for its affiliates,” the petition description read online. “The use of “Colonials,” no matter how innocent the intention, is received as extremely offensive by not only affiliates of the University, but the nation and world at large. Chief among the loopholes is the de facto “catch-and-release” policy that sees most illegal immigrants caught at the border quickly put back out on the streets, with the hope that they’ll return to be deported later.
Perhaps 75 percent of all migrants caught by Border Patrol agents are given catch and release, said Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, which represents line agents. Knowing they’ll be released rather than quickly deported has served as an enticement for more illegal immigrants to make the journey, he said. [Read More]
6 In 10 Able-Bodied Food Stamp Recipients Do Not Work At All. That Has To Change (The Federalist)
President Trump has quietly fired the starting gun for a race toward another round of welfare reform by signing Executive Order 13828, which directs his agencies to take a deep dive toward reforming and streamlining welfare programs. The key goals: move more able-bodied adults from welfare to work, crack down on welfare fraud, and preserve resources for the truly needy.
It is a far reaching order and much needed. But the executive order is just one vehicle for reform. [Read More]
