WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford signed papers to run for re-election at the Maryland State Board of Elections office Thursday.
A Goucher Poll taken last week finds Hogan has a 61 percent approval rating. Of the 800 people polled, 47 percent said they were leaning toward or definitely voting for Hogan this November.
“We’re happy that people seem to be happy with the direction and the job we’re doing, and the job’s not finished. We’re going to continue working hard to change Maryland for the better,” Hogan said in a Facebook video.
So far, no other Republicans have entered the race.
A number of Democrats have already declared their run in the gubernatorial race including Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker, former President of the NAACP Ben Jealous, State Senator Rich Madaleno, and Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.
The filing deadline in February 27.
The primary election will be held June 26. The general election will be Nov. 6.

Governor Larry Hogan and Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford File for Reelection
Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford and I are signing the papers to officially file for reelection. Over the past three years, we have been dedicated to changing Maryland for the better. We have already accomplished a great deal and Maryland is stronger than it has been in decades, but there is still much more work to be done. And we can't afford to turn back now.We won't find out who our opponent is for another four months and there will be plenty of time for politics later, but for now, we're going to keep focused on doing the job we were elected to do.
