President Donald Trump says he’ll visit Parkland, Florida, the site of Wednesday’s shooting that killed 17 people.
Trump said from the White House he’s making plans to meet with families and local officials, and to continue coordinating the federal response.
Trump called on Americans to “answer hate with love, answer cruelty with kindness,” after a troubled 19-year-old former pupil gunned-down students and teachers at the school. He tweeted early Thursday that the suspect appeared to be “mentally disturbed,” but he has not mentioned guns. [Read More]
Montgomery County high school counselor arrested in DC drug raid (Fox 5 DC)
FOX 5 has learned a Montgomery County school counselor is among those arrested in a raid on a D.C. bar two weeks ago.
According to court documents, Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration enforcement officers, members of the Narcotics and Special Investigations division, the Second District Club Action Team and the Second District Crime Suppression Team responded to the Mason Inn in Northwest D.C. on Feb. 1 at around 6:45 p.m. Upon their arrival, the officers encountered a vendor table with 102 assorted edibles, five capsules containing brown liquid, nine bags of marijuana and two jars of marijuana. Senate’s ‘freewheeling’ immigration debate limps to the finish line (Washington Examiner)
This week the Senate was billed as a return to open debate and amendment votes in an effort to find compromise on the thorny issue of immigration.

Sen. Ted Cruz said Thursday that if Republicans pass an immigration plan that allows citizenship they will lose the majority in Congress this November.
“Mark my words, if Republican majorities in Congress pass citizenship for millions of people, do amnesty, I think it is quite likely we will lose both houses of Congress,” Mr. Cruz, Texas Republican, said on Fox News.
