ANNAPOLIS — (WMAL) Maryland Governor Larry Hogan posted a selfie on Twitter Wednesday to note a medical procedure he had this week to remove some cancerous lesions from his face. The photo showed the Governor smiling despite a couple of fresh scars on his face.

“My face is looking a little rough today,” Hogan remarked at the opening of the Board of Public Works meeting. “I was going to say, ‘you should see what the other guy looks like’.”

The melanoma removal amounts to Hogan’s second battle with cancer since taking office. Just months after taking office in 2015, the Governor battled lymphoma, but managed to mostly stay on the job despite months of treatment that stripped him of his hair and left him heavier due to the effects of chemotherapy and steroids.

Hogan has managed to maintain his health, but says he now gets regular scans to test his body to make sure his lymphoma is kept in check.

He blames his skin cancer on the vanity of youth – trying hard as a young lifeguard to be as tanned as possible.

“I wanted to look good with a dark tan so I never put sunscreen on,” Hogan admitted, leaving him with “with lots of sun spot damage.”

“I will say that my surgery was a complete success,” the Governor said Wednesday, “so for anybody keeping score, it’s now, ‘Larry 2, Cancer 0’.”
