Trump’s immigration proposal slammed by his base (CBS News)
Fearing betrayal on a signature campaign issue, President Trump’s loyalists across the country are lashing out against his proposal to create a path to citizenship for nearly 2 million “Dreamer” immigrants. Mr. Trump’s proposal includes $25 billion for border security and significant changes to legal immigration long sought by hard-liners.
Several Democrats and immigration activists rejected it outright, accusing the president of holding “Dreamers” hostage to his hard-line immigration agenda.
Senior White House officials cast the plan as a centrist compromise that could win support from both parties and enough votes to pass the Senate. [Read More]
Top Senate Dem: House Intel Memo Is Baseless. Also, I’ve Not Read It (The Federalist)
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) said Wednesday that the classified report compiled by the House Intelligence Committee, which reportedly details abuses by federal law enforcement and surveillance agencies, is “sloppy” and “baseless.” He also has not read the memo.
“I have not seen the memo,” Warner said, according to CNN. “But I think it is sloppy, careless, and again, I think has no grounding in fact.”
The senior senator form Virginia did not explain how he could know intricate details about a document he has not even read. [Read More]
Jemele Hill is leaving ‘SportsCenter'(New York Post)
Jemele Hill will depart “SportsCenter” to join ESPN’s The Undefeated, Sports Illustrated reported Friday morning.
Under the ESPN umbrella, The Undefeated focuses on the intertwining of sports, culture and race. Hill’s departure date is allegedly Friday, Feb. 2, sources told the Hollywood Reporter.
Hill, 42, was named the evening anchor on “SC6” this past February, along with former “His & Hers” podcast co-host, Michael Smith. The show was an attempt to broaden ESPN’s audience and get away from the traditional highlight show, but has not been a ratings breakout. Smith will reportedly host the show solo for the time being. Three facing charges after tricking girl into making contact with food she’s allergic to (WJLA)
Two 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old are facing multiple charges are reportedly devising a plan to make sure a girl who was allergic to pineapple came into contact with pineapple juice at school.
Police in the suburban Pittsburgh town said the teens knew their friend was allergic when they came up with the idea. The group reportedly put pineapple juice on their hands and then gave high-fives to several people at lunch, making sure the teen who was allergic was one of the people. [Read More]
The White House was rocked overnight by an explosive report that President Trump ordered the firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller last June and only backed down after the top White House lawyer threatened to quit.
Trump, in Davos for the World Economic Forum, denied The New York Times story early Friday, calling it “fake news, folks.”
