CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — A 19-year-old student has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault in Thursday’s attack at Central High School.

Police say Edwin Aguilar Martinez of Seat Pleasant pulled out a small knife in the school and slashed two other students in an argument over a girl.

The victims were treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released to their parents.

Prince George’s County Police chief Hank Stawinski said Martinex turned himself in to school officials after the incident, and the school remained on lockdown while police investigators verified the accounts of what happened.

Several parents rushed to the school and waited outside as the investigation took place, not knowing at the time who was injured inside.
