WASHINGTON (WMAL) — A popular bridge in Frederick County has reopened well ahead of schedule.
The Maryland State Highway Administration said Thursday afternoon that the MD 355 Bridge over Monocacy River is now open for business.
A crash on December 7 caused the MD SHA to close the bridge for emergency repairs.
Shantee Felix, a spokesperson for the MD SHA, said that they had actually set aside 60 days for the repairs to be made, but they were able to open earlier than scheduled.
“[Our crews] basically just worked really hard, worked 12-hour days, through holidays and bad weather, the bitter cold, and just kept making tremendous progress and here we are,” she said.
Felix said that the bridge reopening will be a “sigh of relief” for commuters.
