WASHINGTON — We’re not expecting a lot of snow, but it’s possible we’ll see some flurries this weekend.
“We have a Clipper system moving into our area which could bring some light snow,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Brandon Fling. “Mainly, to the east of us… But these Clipper systems tend to be moisture limited so, we are not expecting a ton of accumulation.”
Pair any snow with the cold temperatures we’ve been dealing with and it could cause some slick roads.
“Our concern with this is that the road temperatures all week have been so cold that any little bit of snow that falls can easily melt with the friction of the tire and then refreeze into ice,” said The Virginia Department of Transportation Spokeswoman Ellen Kamilakas.
VDOT is pre-treating roadways, but Kamilakas says drivers should still think twice before heading out.
“We are asking drivers to stay off the roads as long as they can, especially until midday tomorrow.”
If you must travel, VDOT says allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, drive slow, and give road crews plenty of space. Also, make sure your vehicle is well-equipped for winter weather conditions.
