WASHINGTON – (WMAL) Uniforms are big business for the NBA, so any time there is a change or addition, it always raises some eyebrows. Fans across the country today are discovering Nike’s new City Edition uniforms, which feature distinctive pieces of a city’s history or character.
For Brooklyn, that means a silhouette of the Brooklyn Bridge. The Lakers feature stars from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Even some city names get new treatments – Golden State features “THE BAY” across the front, while Cleveland blares out the city’s nickname “THE LAND”.
The Wizards’ new unis take out any reference to “Washington” or “Wizards”. Instead, the front now reads “The District of Columbia,” with the second “i” in District dotted with the Wizards’ signature red basketball. Nike says the stylized numbers and side panel patterns resemble the stately marble monuments of the National Mall. The shorts also feature the District’s three-star, two-stripe red and white flag on the center of the shorts waistband. The stem on the lowercase “d” in District is shaped to resemble the tip of the Washington Monument.

The Wizards are scheduled to wear the uniform 12 times over the remainder of the season, six at home and six on the road, with the first appearance set for Jan. 30 against Oklahoma City at Capital One Arena.
