WASHINGTON (WMAL) — The investigation is continuing into what caused a fire at an antique store in the Mount Vernon section of Fairfax county.
Firefighters went to battle the flames at the Mount Vernon Antique Center on Richmond Highway in Fairfax County around 9:30 Christmas night, but were soon pulled out of the building because the flames were too intense.
Fairfax Fire Department Spokesperson Willie Bailey told WMAL that firefighters “mounted a defensive attack, fighting the fire from the outside.”
“It took a few hours to extinguish the fire,” said Bailey. “All through the night, firefighters were still extinguishing hot spots.”
The flames started on the second floor and no one was injured, according to officials.
Gale Curcio, one of the dealers who sells merchandise at the Mount Vernon Antique Center also spoke to WMAL. “We’ll just wait and see,” she said of the fire. “We’re just glad that no one was hurt.”
