FAIRFAX COUNTY (WMAL) – Elderly patients have become a target in Fairfax County.

Police are now looking for three suspects, two men and a woman, who they say have been stealing from older people as they are entering or leaving local hospitals.

They say the suspects distract the person, while another suspect steals their wallet or credit card.

“Three individual subjects we had pictures of are going to local department stores and fraudulently making purchases with that credit card information,” said Officer Kent Bailer, Fairfax County Police spokesperson.

Officer Bailey says it’s been happening over and over again.

“It seems to be where it is some type if preying, where these suspects are not just randomly going out. They are clearly doing their research or waiting for the opportunity and this opportunity is them waiting for an elderly person,” said Officer Bailey.

Police are reminding people to keep your personal items in your front pockets. And if you carry a purse or bag, to always zip or fasten it closed.

If you notice anyone or anything suspicious, report it to police.

Also, make sure your elderly loved ones are with a trusted family member or friend.

If you recognize any of the suspects in the surveillance photos, you are urged to contact Detective Pleva with Fairfax County Police at 703-644-7377.
