WASHINGTON (WMAL) — An Uber driver has been charged with sexually assaulting a customer. Prince William County Police say it happened early Saturday morning. The 22 year old woman says she requested an Uber to go from Manassas to her home in Woodbridge.

The woman told police during that trip, the driver held her down and sexually assaulted her. He then dropped the woman off at home.

37 year old Crisitan Yovani Zelda Avalo is now facing charges of object sexual penetration and abduction with intent to defile and is being held without bond. Police tell WMAL he has no previous criminal record.

Uber released the following statement:

“This report is appalling and our thoughts are with the rider during this difficult time. The driver has been removed from the app and we’ll work to help police in any way we can with their investigation.”
