ASHBURN, VA . — Washington Redskins linebacker Junior Galette is back in the news for a brush with the law, but thankfully for him, the resulting scandal is months old.
TMZ Sports on Wednesday morning released police body camera footage of the 29-year-old NFL star being arrested in Biloxi, Mississippi back in April.
Galette was ordered to stop by a police officer who was breaking up a scuffle between the linebacker and another man, but instead, he ran from the officer, and was eventually run down and stopped by taser fire.
Here is a partial transcript of the chase and eventual arrest:
Biloxi Police Officer:”You better stop m-f***a before I tase your ass.”
But, Galette continued to run which, led the unidentified officer to strike Galette. After the strike, Galette identified himself as a player for the Redskins:
BP Officer: “Where you from?”
Galette: “I am from New York… but, I am with the Washington Redskins. I was trying to stop the fight but, he was pointing a gun at me.”
BP Officer: “You play, right now?
Galette: “Yeah”
Galette then makes further comments.
Galette: “I got a lot to lose.”
BP Officer: “For what? Failure to comply with a lawful order”
Galette: “That’s what I’m saying I don’t event want to be in that predicament..”
BP Officer:”Trust me. It could be worse. I could charge you with a lot more stuff but, I am going to keep it real with you.”
Galette was arrested for disorderly conduct and failure to comply to a police order but he was able to strike a plea deal with prosecutors and the case is effectively closed. He did not face further punishment fron the NFL for the arrest.
Galette is currently playing for the Redskins this season — recording nine tackles and one sack. He is in his third year with the team, but the first season playing after tearing achilles tendons in both legs in the two previous pre-seasons.
