In what has become an annual ritual, the Washington Nationals begin their playoff series tonight against the reigning World Champion Chicago Cubs at Nationals Park. Washington baseball fans might not consider themselves to be lucky considering the Nats consistently fall apart in the first round every time they’ve made it to the post-season, but the fact is the consistent appearances in the playoffs that the DC baseball club has experienced these past several years truly is an anomaly. The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays and plenty of other teams in the league would love to have this kind of consistent regular season success, but the fact that the Nats can’t advance past round one has really become a sticking point for most fans and it feels like this year they need to show some progress or fans are going to stop caring.
On today’s program we’ll welcome William Ladson from MLB.com to discuss this series, the pitching match-ups and the overall mood of Nats fans who are reaching the end of their rope.
