Scooter Driver Dies After Collision with Police Cruiser in Wheaton

 

WHEATON, MD  — Police in Maryland say that the 74-year-old driver of a motor scooter has died after a crash with a police cruiser.

Montgomery County Police said in a statement Thursday morning that detectives are still investigating what caused the scooter and unmarked cruiser to collide. Multiple witnesses have spoken with investigators about the crash that happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in Wheaton.

The statement says the scooter driver was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. The officer, who was on duty, wasn’t seriously hurt.

Police say they will release the identities of both drivers later Thursday.
