WASHINGTON – (WMAL) Loudoun County Parkway’s ‘Missing Link’ opened Tuesday, finally allowing drivers a streamlined trip between Braddock Road, the Dulles Greenway, and Route 7. The short road, running between Shreveport Drive and Old Ox Road just west of Dulles Airport, could shave 10 to 20 minutes off some commutes, according to Loudoun County Supervisor Matt Letourneau, who represents the area around the new link.

“For over a decade, we’ve had this one missing piece right in the middle,” Letourneau told WMAL. “It’s caused all sorts of congestion as the community has grown around it.”

The road was intended to be built as part of an agreement with a developer but the developer backed out of a project, leaving the road unbuilt for a decade. The deal was renegotiated, Letourneau said.

“Loudoun County’s been one of the fastest-growing counties in the entire country, nd this has been the fastest growing part of one of the fastest-growing counties,” Letourneau said. “We have major congestion on some old streets, some old roads that were never built to handle the amount of traffic they’re seeing today.”

The project will also widen a stretch of Old Ox Road. New traffic lights in the area are also online.
