WASHINGTON – If you’re not in the mood to cook Thursday, you can dine out with a purpose.
Dozens of restaurants in the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington are donating a portion of their proceeds to Harvey relief as part of D.C. Dines Out For Houston.
“The spirit of the community, and giving in general amongst our industry, is so very strong in the region,” said RAMW President Kathy Hollinger.
When WMAL spoke to Hollinger on Wednesday afternoon, she said every 20 minutes more restaurants were signing up to participate.
Prominent D.C. restauranteurs including Andy Shallal of Busboys and Poets and José Andres have been instrumental in putting the fundraiser together, according to Hollinger.
While some restaurant owners involved have their own restaurants in Texas, Hollinger said, others just feel a need to reach out to people who share their passion.
“They can only imagine what devastating impact or effect that another small business owner may be going through,” said Hollinger.

Saturday, RAMW members will participate in another fundraiser to raise money for the Red Cross called D.C. Food and Beverage Give to Harvey Relief.
