WASHINGTON (WMAL) — The investigation into the death of a woman on an Ocean City beach in July concluded without many answers about what happened.

Ocean City Police aren’t sure why the three to four foot tall hole Ashley O’Connors climbed into July 31 collapsed according to spokesperson Lindsay Richard.

“The only person that knows exactly what happened, unfortunately, is Ms. O’Connor,” Richard said.

After an exhaustive investigation, police have three theories about what caused the hole to collapse: vibrations from the tractors nearby, natural causes, or a tractor that was cleaning the beach at the time could have filled the hole in.

Richard said foul play has been ruled out.
