WASHINGTON (WMAL) — President Trump delivered remarks in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House Monday after speaking with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and newly confirmed FBI Director Christopher Wray condemning the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, and White Supremacists.

After leading with an update on the economy, the President delved into the events that took place in Charlottesville, VA over the past weekend.

He again condemned the violence and said that all those who engaged in it will be “brought to justice.”

Specifically he called out various hate groups by name – a move he did not make over the weekend which, as of Monday, had turned into a source of controversy.

“Racism is evil – and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs. Including the KKK, Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans,” the President said.

He also honored two fallen Virginia State Police officers who died in a helicopter crash as well as a woman who was killed in a car attack on counterprotestors.

Trump also revealed the the Justice Department had launched a civil rights investigation into that car attack.

After the statement, the he did not take questions.
