PRINCE WILLIAM, Va– (WMAL) Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart lost a close race last month when he took on Ed Gillespie in the Republican primary for Governor.
Now, he tells WMAL, his eyes are set on a bigger prize– the U.S. Senate and running what he calls an “absolutely ruthless campaign” against incumbent Democrat Tim Kaine.
Stewart says he has “probably the best shot” at beating Kaine.
“I’m the one…the only Republican who has been able to win in Northern Virginia consistently and that’s why we’re going to take him (Kaine) out.”
Stewart says he plans to do that by running an issues-based campaign.
“I’m going to be focused on bringing back jobs, growing the economy, reforming healthcare. Doing all the things that Tim Kaine is ignoring right now because of his blind hatred for President Trump. He’s more focused on Russia.”
Stewart, who has already filed the proper paperwork, is making his official announcement today. He says his next focus will be on fundraising.
“There’s a lot of money out there nationally from people who despise Tim Kaine. They want a strong Republican who is going to hold no bars, somebody who is going to run a ruthless campaign to take out Tim Kaine and return that seat to the Republican party. ”
