ANNAPOLIS — (WMAL) A baby boy only hours old was left on the doorstep of an Annapolis house Friday morning. A woman who lives in the home on Forest Drive found the newborn swaddled in a woman’s shirt and a hooded jacket

“The resident wasn’t aware of anyone who would leave a baby on the doorstep, but it’s actually the home of a local pastor, so it’s not clear if maybe the mother knew the resident’s position in the community,” said Corp. Amy Miguez with the Annapolis Police Department.

The baby was in good health and sent to a local hospital for care.

Police are looking for the mother. Miguez said they don’t know her identity or the circumstances that led her to abandon the baby and are concerned she could need medical attention.

They are hoping someone will have a tip that leads them to the mother. Miguez said someone may recognize the clothes the baby was wrapped in – a small purple Mudd brand women’s shirt and a black Adidas hooded jacket with three red stripes on sleeves were found with the newborn.

Maryland’s Safe Haven law, passed in 2002, allows parents to leave babies with responsible adults at police stations or hospitals within 10 days of their birth without any consequences. Miguez said they can’t rule out criminal charges in this case.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact detectives at 410-260-3439.

Police also released a second image of the baby:

Two photos of the clothes the baby was wearing were also shared by police in continued efforts to identify the mother:
