WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chair Corey Stewart said he is no longer contesting Tuesday’s gubernatorial primary results.
“This battle is over,” Stewart told WMAL News.
He made that decision after realizing he was not going to be able to make up the deficit in votes. The race was close with a roughly 4,000 vote difference between him and Ed Gillespie.
He said it was shocking that the race was so close, but his campaign knew it was getting close when their rallies were getting bigger.
Stewart will take a breather and then figure out how he can continue his fight to drain the swamp.
“We’re in a cultural war. We will never ever give in,” Stewart said.
Stewart has served on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors since 2003.
Meanwhile, Gillespie canceled all his post primary campaign events for the day after a man opened fire as Republican members of Congress were practicing Wednesday morning for the congressional game Thursday . The game will be played.
