WASHINGTON — (WMAL) On one of the hottest days of the year, there has been a drowning in the District at a day care.
DC Police and Fire responded to a call at 11:22 am on the 300 block of 17th Street Northeast.
Fire officials say they transported a child to the hospital in serious condition.
Police say the child, an almost 2-year-old boy, died of his injuries.
The Office of the State Superintendent of Education says it is aware of the boy’s death at a licensed child development home and released the following statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the child. We are investigating this matter in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department and Child and Family Services Agency.”
Police say this is an active investigation and have not released details about how the child drowned.
