5am – A/B/C Do you want Trump to tweet during the Comey testimony? A Washington, D.C., Bar Is Offering Free Drinks for Every Time Trump Tweets About Comey In what is definitely the most anticipated thing to ever run on C-SPAN, former FBI director James Comey will testify tomorrow in front of Congress about President Donald Trump and his relationship with Russia. Those of us outside the Capitol will be able to watch on that network (and every other one), but residents of Washington, D.C., will be able to drop by local bar Union Pub, which will give a free drink to everyone inside every singletime Trump tweets about his nemesis, until either the testimony is done or the clock strikes 4 p.m.
5am – D Reality Winner posted controversial statements but still received top secret clearance. As the government has grown ever more dependent on the security clearance system to maintain confidentiality, the number of Americans holding clearances has skyrocketed. A 2013 report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence found 4.9 million security clearances, 1.4 million of them Top Secret. The massive list of positions both with the government and, like in Reality Winner’s case, with a private government contractor, that require clearances has led to a back log at the Office of Personnel Management that can create a major obstacle to government employment.

On Wednesday, he issued a letter to Jacobs.
“My physical response to your legitimate question was unprofessional, unacceptable, and unlawful. As both a candidate for Office and a public official, I should be held to a high standard in my interactions with the press and the public. My treatment of you did not meet that standard. “I made a mistake and humbly ask for your forgiveness,” the letter stated. “I have accepted Mr. Gianforte’s apology and his willingness to take responsibility for his actions and statements,” he said in a statement.
7am – D/E Comey Letter Breakdown: Comey tells Trump he’s not personally under investigation In that context, prior to the January 6 meeting, I discussed with the FBI’s leadership team whether I should be prepared to assure President-Elect Trump that we were not investigating him personally. That was true; we did not have an open counter-intelligence case on him. We agreed I should do so if circumstances warranted. During our one-on-one meeting at Trump Tower, based on President Elect Trump’s reaction to the briefing and without him directly asking the question, I offered that assurance. Comey didn’t keep memos of Obama conversations I felt compelled to document my first conversation with the President-Elect in a memo. To ensure accuracy, I began to type it on a laptop in an FBI vehicle outside Trump Tower the moment I walked out of the meeting. Creating written records immediately after one-on-one conversations with Mr. Trump was my practice from that point forward. This had not been my practice in the past. I spoke alone with President Obama twice in person (and never on the phone) – once in 2015 to discuss law enforcement policy issues and a second time, briefly, for him to say goodbye in late 2016. In neither of those circumstances did I memorialize the discussions. I can recall nine one-on-one conversations with President Trump in four months – three in person and six on the phone. Comey describes “awkward silence” with Trump, controlling his “facial expression” A few moments later, the President said, “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.” I didn’t move, speak, or change my facial expression in any way during the awkward silence that followed. We simply looked at each other in silence. The conversation then moved on, but he returned to the subject near the end of our dinner.

8am – D Tucker Carlson and Corey Lewandowski discuss Jeff Sessions/ Lindsey Graham’s message to Trump “Jeff Sessions had no alternative, Mr. President, as a lawyer.
