BELTSVILLE – (WMAL) A father and son out on a walk in the woods in Beltsville in October 1984 found some bones. Those bones turned out to be human, with just a sliver of skin left on a finger.
That sliver has allowed Prince George’s County Police to identify those remains, 33 years later, as Bennett Louis. Louis was 27 when he was killed, police said. An autopsy found he had been shot multiple times, including once in the head. The identification was made thanks to advanced fingerprint technology at the FBI’s lab in Quantico.
Louis had no ties to the area, a Louisiana native whose last known address was in North Carolina. His family had not reported him missing, and last saw him in California the year before, according to police.
Police released a picture of Louis in a Marine uniform. They said he served for at least three years, but they’re still trying to determine when and what his rank was.
There is still a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
