Manassas City Police Shoot 18-Year-Old with Weapon

MANASSAS, VA — (AP) Officers in northern Virginia shot and seriously wounded an 18-year-old man who police say had a weapon.

Prince William County police said in a statement that Manassas City Police officers pursued a vehicle after a report of shots fired in Manassas. They followed the vehicle into the county, where it stopped at a park.

Spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Perok says the driver had a weapon, there was a confrontation and the driver was shot early Friday, but he didn’t have details about what led up to the shooting. He says police aren’t saying what kind of weapon he had. The man was flown to a hospital with serious injuries.

Perok says officers and a 15-year-old girl inside the vehicle weren’t injured. He didn’t know the races of the officers or injured man.
