For five days between March 15th and March 21st some D.C. students had a convicted sex offender driving their school bus.

A statement released today by The Office of the State Superintendent said there was an “egregious lapse in procedures by a staff member in our Human Resources department” that allowed the man to be temporarily assigned to bus routes.

According to the statement, there is no indication that the bus driver had inappropriate contact with any of the students that rode his bus during those five days.

In addition, all 22 families of students who rode those buses were notified in writing of the incident.

The statement also says that the Office is auditing all past records to “reconfirm that no other…employees have been improperly processed,” as well as retraining their entire H.R. department.

As of now there has been no action taken by any of the students or family members against the School District.
