LORTON — (WMAL) An overnight massive fire at Fairfax County’s Recycling and Disposal Center drew 60 firefighters and some 30 pieces of fire-fighting equipment, as flames ripped through the roof of the facility.
The fire was first reported at around 9 pm, and it took several hours for firefighters to get the flames under control.
A trash pile that is three stories tall is smouldering in the facility, and heavy smoke continues to billow out of the building. Officials say the smoke may continue for several days, because they cannot reach the center of the fire to put it out. .
No one was injured in the two-alarm fire at the facility on Furnace Road.
