Former CIA chief says Trump should ‘be ashamed.’ WASHINGTON (AP) — Former CIA Director John Brennan says President Donald Trump “should be ashamed of himself” for his behavior at CIA headquarters. That’s according to a statement released by Brennan’s former aide Nick Shapiro. The statement says Brennan “is deeply saddened and angered at Donald Trump’s despicable display of self-aggrandizement in front of CIA’s Memorial Wall of Agency heroes. Brennan says that Trump should be ashamed of himself.”
5am – E UK-US Meeting:
- British PM Theresa May says she plans to discuss the importance of NATO when she meets with Pres. Trump on Friday. British Prime Minister Theresa May said Sunday she plans to discuss free trade and the importance of the NATO military alliance when she becomes the first foreign leader to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. The White House’s invitation for May to meet with Trump on Friday was seen in Britain as affirmation that Trump values the vaunted “special relationship” between the United States and its longtime ally across the Atlantic.
- A British nuclear test last June accidentally sent an unarmed missile hurtling towards the US. The first test of Britain’s nuclear defense system in four years, which took place in June 2016, accidentally fired an unarmed missile towards the US, the Sunday Times uncovered. The malfunction was subsequently covered up, and in the meanwhile, the British House of Commons voted to keep the missile system. “There was a major panic at the highest level of government and the military after the first test of our nuclear deterrent in four years ended in disastrous failure,” a source told the Sunday Times. The submarine-launched Trident II D5 missile was allegedly intended for a target off the west coast of Africa, but started veering off target after it left the water. The Sunday Times reports that the submarine was off the coast of Florida when the missile was launched. UK Prime Minister Theresa May, elected into office after the test took place, refused to comment Sunday morning on whether she knew about the failure, saying she still had “absolute faith in our Trident missiles.”
6am – A/B/C Women’s March:
- Singer Madonna defends ‘blowing up the White House’ remark. Pop singer Madonna, who said in a profanity-laced speech at Saturday’s Women’s March in Washington, D.C., that she had thought about “blowing up the White House,” said on Sunday that she was speaking metaphorically. Madonna’s speech, which was criticized on social media, led some television networks to abruptly stop their live feeds of the march, which drew hundreds of thousands of people in demonstrations across the United States to protest the election of Donald Trump as president. “I am not a violent person,” the singer songwriter said on Instagram. “I spoke in metaphor and I shared two ways of looking at things — one was to be hopeful, and one was to feel anger and outrage, which I have personally felt.”
- Trump on Women’s March protesters: ‘Why didn’t these people vote?’ President Donald Trump questioned the more than 1 million people around the country who marched in protest of his presidency on Saturday and criticized the celebrities who joined the demonstrations. “Watched protests yesterday but was under the impression that we just had an election!” Trump tweeted early Sunday. “Why didn’t these people vote? Celebs hurt cause badly.”

- More Than 200 Arrested in D.C. Protests on Inauguration Day. WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day was marred by noisy demonstrations, shoving matches and sporadic clashes with cops that resulted in more than 200 arrests. Three-thousand members of local, state and federal law enforcement — backed by 5,000 National Guard members and police officers from as far away as New Jersey — patrolled the streets as the evening’s festivities got under way and the legions of protesters still seething over the Manhattan mogul’s unexpected victory threatened more disruptions. Acting Police Chief Peter Newsham said that by around 6:30 p.m. ET things had calmed down, but authorities were still monitoring several groups. Six police officers suffered minor injuries when protesters flung bricks, trash cans and other objects, and ignited small fires, Newsham said. Four businesses were vandalized and sustained “significant damage,” he said. Also, demonstrators torched a limousine, police at the scene said. All of the 217 people arrested on Friday were charged with rioting.
- Most protesters arrested on Inauguration Day will face felony rioting charges, federal prosecutors say.he U.S. Attorney’s Office said the offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The office said most of those arrested will be released without having to post bail and must return to court in February. A first group of 10 men appeared in Superior Court just before 3 p.m., and their lawyer entered a not guilty plea on their behalf. A judge released all of them on the condition they not get re-arrested in the District of Columbia. Interim D.C. police chief Peter Newsham said Friday that 217 people were being charged with rioting.

The White House released daily guidance for the president on Sunday evening, noting that his Monday will include a “breakfast and listening session with key business leaders” and a similar afternoon session with union leaders and “American Workers.” The president is expected to sign executive orders in the Oval Office and receive the daily briefing in the morning. He’ll have lunch with Vice President Mike Pence at noon. At 5 p.m., Trump is scheduled to hold a leadership reception with congressional leaders from both parties, followed by a private meeting with House Speaker Paul Ryan an hour later. White House press secretary Sean Spicer will deliver an on-camera briefing at 1 p.m. that’s sure to be a focus of the day, given the weekend focus on the Trump administrations reaction to media coverage of the crowd sizes at the inauguration.
- Donald Trump Brings Gold Curtains, Winston Churchill Bust to the Oval Office. Gone are the deep red curtains that hung in the office during the Obama presidency, replaced by bright gold curtains reminiscent of Trump’s apartment inside Trump Tower. One of Trump’s most significant change to the Oval Office so far could be his decision to bring a bust of Winston Churchill back into the office. Obama drew scrutiny from Great Britain’s nationalist UKIP Party when he replaced the bust of Churchill with a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. during his administration.
- Trump Calls Out Time Magazine For Fake News Story About Removing MLK Bust From Oval Office. (Daily Caller) — President Donald Trump went after a Time Magazine reporter for spreading a rumor that the Martin Luther King Jr. bust had been removed from the Oval Office. Trump said the reporter, Zeke Miller, couldn’t see the bust because a camera man was standing in front of it and immediately assumed it had been removed. Trump admonished the media in a speech at CIA headquarters Saturday for initially running with the story before issuing a retraction that he said did not get as much attention as the original story. He continued that he did bring back a bust of Winston Churchill to the Oval Office because he admires Churchill, and confirmed that British Prime Minister Theresa May would visit the U.S. shortly. After Trump declared that “the media are the most dishonest human beings on earth,” and repeated his criticism, he was met with cheers and applause. Trump also took umbrage at the media’s frequent comparisons of his inaugural crowd to that of President Barack Obama’s 2009 address. Miller apologized for spreading the news late Friday night in a series of tweets.
