WASHINGTON — (CNN) President Barack Obama on Monday granted clemency to 231 individuals, the largest batch of grants on a single day of his presidency, bringing him to 1,324 acts of clemency over the course of his term.

Obama granted pardons to 78 individuals, doubling his previous number of pardons for a total of 148.

He granted 153 commutations, reducing the sentences of 1,176 individuals including 395 life sentences.
