GREENBELT, MD.. – (WMAL) – Greenbelt Animal Control officers are on the hunt for whoever tied an electrical cord around a kitten’s neck, which was plugged into an outlet.

Officers responded on Friday after they received a call about the kitten that was locked in an apartment basement on Spring Hill Lane.

“We can’t wrap our heads around exactly why they would do what they do. It didn’t seem to be injured but it did seem to be malnourished,” said George Mathews, a spokesperson for Greenbelt Police Department.

Mathews says the kitten was found sitting in urine and feces in the basement and had been there for some time.

Right now, officers are looking for information on a suspect or suspects in this animal cruelty case.

The kitten is recovering at the Greenbelt Animal Shelter.

“The last thing I have heard, the animal is doing well. I am sure they will find a home for an animal like this fairly quickly,” said Mathews.

If you have any information, contact Greenbelt Animal Control at 301-474-6124.
