Prince George’s County Councilmember Faces DUI Charges

WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A Prince George’s County Council member was charged with drunk driving after crashing his car while under the influence and running into the woods.

Mel Franklin, a Democrat representing District 9 who also chairs the Public Safety and Fiscal Management Committee, was arrested November 21 after crashing his car into another vehicle stopped at a light.

Franklin ran away from the scene of the crime into a wooded area and was later found by police.

Two passengers in the hit car were injured.

Franklin was charged with driving under the influence, failure to control vehicle speed to avoid a collision, and other charges.
