5am – A/B/C   Recount: What Is Stein And Clinton Trying Do With a Recount?

• Jill Stein raises $6 million for recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. (Christian Science Monitor) — Former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has raised almost $6 million to petition the states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan to recount votes in order to determine if hacking skewed the election away from the expected victor, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. In all three states, President-elect Donald Trump won an upset victory with a tiny margin. If the trio had gone blue, as was expected, Mrs. Clinton would have earned enough electoral votes to secure the election. Proponents of the recount have compared it to instant replay in a sporting event, but critics say it undermines confidence in the electoral process. While Clinton supporters are holding on to their last hope to see her in the White House, the Obama administration has announced that the election was not hacked, by Russians or anyone else.
• Trump calls Stein, Clinton vote recount effort ‘ridiculous,’ a ‘scam’  (Fox News) — President-elect Donald Trump broke his silence Saturday on the multi-state vote-recount effort led by Jill Stein and joined this weekend by Hillary Clinton, another failed 2016 White House candidate, calling the effort “ridiculous” and a scam. Stein, the Green Party candidate, started the effort a couple of days ago to get recounts in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — states that Trump surprisingly won. Stein has raised $5.8 million toward her goal of $7 million and on Friday made her first official move — requesting a recount in Wisconsin. “The people have spoken and the election is over,” Trump, a Republican, said Saturday. “We must accept this result and then look to the future. … “This recount is just a way for Jill Stein. … to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount.”  The Clinton campaign joined the effort, despite Clinton having already conceded the race.
• Trump tweets about ‘serious voter fraud’ in 3 states. (The Hill) — President-elect Donald Trump alleged Sunday evening that there were “serious voter fraud” issues in three states during the election, calling out results from Virginia, New Hampshire and California.  Donald J. 5am – D         A public park for ashes? As cremations soar, demand for scatter gardens grows. (Washington Post) — Jennifer Beman wants to spend her death where she made her life, in her adopted home town of Takoma Park. Like others who have their cremated remains unofficially scattered in the Maryland city’s back yards and public parks, the 54-year-old likes the ashes-to-ashes idea of lingering eternally in her local ecosystem. But Beman and a group of like-minded neighbors are going a step further than the kind of DIY ash-tossing that has grown common as cremation rates in the United States have doubled over the past 15 years.  They are asking their city to set up the country’s first municipal “scatter garden,” a patch of memorial commons where residents could commingle in the soil of their burg — and where families could return to remember. “Throwing them in the ocean is very romantic, but then there is no place for a person to go back to,” said Beman, a documentary filmmaker. “You can go with your kids and say, ‘I think it was somewhere around here, but maybe it was on the other side of the island.’ I like the idea of a real place.” While cremation experts said no city has set up such a stand-alone facility, the Takoma Park proposal is part of a boom in “cremation spaces” related to huge shifts in burial customs. Cremation, once all but unknown in the United States, is rapidly becoming the norm — climbing from a quarter of deaths in 2000 to almost 49 percent in 2015, according to industry tracking.

5am – E         Critter News:

• Puppies saved from Kosovo streets arrive in D.C. WASHINGTON (WUSA9) – Several dogs who were roaming the streets of Kosovo are with their new forever homes in the D.C. area. D.C.-based Lucky Dog Animal Rescue helped save and fly the dogs overseas. The first batch of puppies arrived at Dulles International Airport Friday afternoon. Their arrival had been uncertain because of a massive Lufthansa pilot strike, but volunteers were able to secure affordable flights for the dogs. Several more puppies will arrive at Dulles on Monday. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C.
• National Zoo gives update on Bei Bei’s recovery after surgery. WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Zoo staff are keeping a close eye on Bei Bei as he recovers from emergency bowel obstruction surgery. Bei Bei has been eating soft food and taking medication as part of his recovery. He has been moving around his den and interacting normally with his keepers, which the zoo says is a good sign. The zoo reintroduced Bei Bei to his mother Mei Xiang on Saturday afternoon after the two pandas were chirping to each other. Bei Bei nursed and then both pandas took a nap. Zoo keepers will have Mei Xiang eat meals of bamboo separately from Bei Bei, and then reunite them. On Sunday morning Bei Bei took his medications, urinated, and then took a nap in his indoor enclosure.

• Washington Redskins (6-4)  26  vs  Dallas Cowboys (10-1) 31, Final – Thursday, November 24, 4:30 PM, AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas
• Redskins’ defense snap counts vs. the Cowboys: Washington loses in the trenches. The Redskins lost to the Dallas Cowboys, 31-26, at AT&T Stadium in Week 12. The Redskins’ defensive line was dominated in the trenches by one of the best offensive lines in the game. Dallas rushed for 163 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per touch on 30 carries, and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was sacked just once on the only quarterback hit the Redskins recorded. Washington’s defense wasn’t on the field long, but it couldn’t keep Dallas out of the end zone. The Cowboys had seven meaningful possessions, scoring four touchdowns, sinking their only field goal attempt and punting just twice. The Cowboys have the NFL’s best record and, for the second time this season, they fared better than the Redskins in a close game.
• Colin Kaepernick was greeted with boos when he took the field Sunday in Miami after his support for Fidel Castro. (CNN)San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was greeted with a chorus of boos Sunday when he took the field at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It wasn’t just because the 49ers were playing against the home-standing Miami Dolphins. Miami is home to a large community of Cuban exiles and they are outraged by Kaepernick’s support of the man they consider a brutal oppressor, the now-deceased Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
• Son of Cuban immigrant tackles Kaepernick to end game, defeat 49ers. It was, perhaps, a bit of poetic justice that found the son of a Cuban immigrant tackling the communist dictator-loving San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to end the game. Kaepernick, who recently showed his affection for now-dead Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, was dashing for the end zone in the final seconds of the game against the Miami Dolphins when Kiko Alonso, the son of a Cuban immigrant, absolutely flattened him. Kaepernick was already tangling when Ndamukong Suh when Alonso, bent him backwards, finishing him — and the 49ers — off.

• Donald Trump Adds K.T. McFarland to His National Security Team. For the equally critical job of deputy national security adviser, Mr. Trump chose K. T. McFarland, an aide in three Republican White Houses and a Fox News commentator. She has been highly critical of President Obama’s approach to combating terrorism — a view that aligns her with Mr. Trump’s choice for national security adviser, Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn.
• Trump appoints Donald McGahn as White House Counsel. (CBS News) — Donald McGahn has been appointed assistant to the president and White House counsel, Donald Trump’s transition team announced Friday.  “Don has a brilliant legal mind, excellent character and a deep understanding of constitutional law,” said President-elect Trump. “He will play a critical role in our administration, and I am grateful that he is willing to serve our country at such a high-level capacity.” McGahn was general counsel for Mr. Trump’s campaign, and he is working on the transition. He is currently a partner at Jones Day in Washington, D.C., specializing in political law. He’s also a former FEC chairman and has served as general counsel for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).
• Conway unloads on Romney: “We don’t even know if Mitt Romney voted for Donald Trump.” Appointing Mitt Romney as secretary of state would be viewed by many supporters of President-elect Donald Trump as a major betrayal, former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told CNN on Sunday. “It’s just breathtaking in scope and intensity,” Conway said of the opposition to Romney among Trump supporters. “Receiving deluge of social media & private comms re: Romney Some Trump loyalists warn against Romney as sec of state,” Conway wrote on Twitter on Thursday, linking to a POLITICO article about opposition to Romney. “I felt compelled to come forward on behalf of the people who were weighing in,” Conway said of that tweet. Speaking to correspondent Dana Bash on “State of the Union,” Conway went on to say that she, too, had personal concerns with Romney getting the job of top diplomat, and she even took shots at Romney’s run for president in 2012.

With mobile shopping on the rise, employees can sneak in some Cyber Monday deal hunting at work any time. Cyber Monday sales moved the launch date to Sunday, but most people still rather prefer to shop Cyber Monday at work. Work productivity is once again expected to drop on Cyber Monday as employees take advantage of the best deals of the day. A survey by Kelton Global and RetailMeNot leads to an estimate of 94% of employed consumers plan to spend some time on their computers browsing and buying during the Cyber Monday workday, which is similar to last year’s findings. “Employees are willing to go to great lengths to find the best deals on everything from their holiday list,” says Sara Skirboll, the shopping and trends expert for RetailMeNot. “According to our survey, we know that many shoppers plan to spend as many as four hours looking for Cyber Monday deals.”

Star Wars reared its head in the American presidential campaign on more occasion than one. From the parody of Donald Trump as the evildoer of “Darth Trump” to Mr Trump rebuking Barack Obama for supposedly prioritising watching Star Wars over fighting terrorism, the adventures of a “galaxy far, far away” have found their place in an American presidential campaign plagued with bitterness on planet earth. Since the President-elect’s shock victory, the sci-fi trilogy has found its way into politics again. The newly appointed Chief White House strategist, Steve Bannon, who is the former Breitbart editor, appeared to compare himself to a Star Wars villain. “Darkness is good. Dick Cheney. Darth Vader. Satan. That’s power,” Bannon told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month. As such, it seems particularly apt that Mark Hamill, who is known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, has now weighed in on Mr Trump’s presidency. The 64-year-old actor, who is a long-time Democrat, said Mr Trump’s presidency is shaping up to be a “who’s-who of really despicable people” in an interview with The Daily Beast. Hamill said he was in “total denial” about his win. “I’m glad I have [the show] to take my mind off what’s going on. Because if you look at what’s being assembled for our government it’s like, yikes. It’s a who’s-who of really despicable people.”
