WASHINGTON — (WMAL) It’s not too late to see the first supermoon of this century.
The Beaver Moon, which is named so because November is the time of year that fur trappers would hunt beavers, will continue to be visible through Monday night.
What’s so special about this supermoon? According to NASA it becomes full within the first two hours of it’s perigee, which is the point of the moons orbit that is nearest to Earth.
According to Geoff Chester with the US Naval Observatory says that “the full moon corresponds with the closest lunar perrige about every 413 days.”
Supermoons tend to be 14% brighter and 30% larger than normal full moons. The best night of viewing was November 13th, but the effects of the moon will still be visible throughout the most part of this evening if the days weather permits.
